Treatment for Stress Urinary Incontinence

13/08/2014

Stress Urinary Incontinence, the unintentional passing of urine, is the most common kind of urinary incontinence that can occur in both men and women. It’s the result of increased pressure on the bladder caused by coughing, sneezing, laughing or exercise, when there are weak or damaged muscles in the pelvic floor or sphincter.

Fortunately the medical team at France Surgery are experts in treating Stress Urinary Incontinence. An initial consultation will give them all the information they need to provide you with the best course of action.

Treatments include:

  1. Surgery: A sling-type device is inserted under the urethra to help give it support and ensure it stays in the right position even when there is additional pressure on it.

  2. The TOT Technique (Trans Obturator Tape): This is a slightly less invasive procedure similar to the surgery method above, but can be carried out under a local or general anaesthetic.

  3. The TVT Technique (Tension-free Vaginal Tape): This works in a very similar manner to the TOT Technique outlined above.

  4. Colposuspension: This is major abdominal surgery and would be used in more extreme cases.

  5. Special Agent Injection: A special agent is injected around the urethral sphincter to reinforce it. However it’s generally less effective and over-time may need to be repeated.

With the exception of the Special Agent Injection, results are hugely successful with well over 90% of patients experiencing no urine leakage whatsoever after treatment.

So if you’re suffering from Stress Urinary Incontinence, suffer no longer. Contact France Surgery today to speak with one of our specialists.
